Pundit Steven Pressley has recently been talking about Odsonne Edouard and has addressed his current situation at Parkhead.
Pressley was a guest on the latest episode of the Sportsound podcast and the panel talked about many issues involving the Scottish game. One thing that Pressley chose to focus on was the situation of Edouard and whether the Frenchman would leave Parkhead or not.
Edouard has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leicester City in recent months. French giants AS Monaco also had an offer rejected for the striker in the January transfer window.
While discussing rumours linking Alfredo Morelos with an exit from the Hoops’ Old Firm rivals, Pressley argued that Celtic may have a comparable situation on their hands with star striker Edouard.
He said: “I think that Celtic will be faced with a similar conundrum with the Edouard situation. So although we are just talking just now about [Alfredo] Morelos and he’s the one making the headlines at this moment in time regarding the move, I think Celtic will be faced with a similar situation there. And they are going to have a big decision to make on Edouard.

“I think it goes with the Scottish market at this moment in time. When you go in and play in the SPL – especially the younger strikers – and you perform in the manner that both Edouard and Morelos have, I think there’s a kind of expectation, a kind of understanding that these players will only be there for several years before they move on. So we might have a situation this summer where both Old Firm clubs lose their main asset.”
Pressley believes that Edouard’s situation could end up being similar to that of Alfredo Morelos, who has already agreed to join French side Lille. Pressley feels that players like Edouard and Morelos can stay in the Premiership for only a certain period of time before they end up leaving.

As mentioned before, there seems to be no shortage of interest in Edouard at this point and clubs are keeping tabs on the Frenchman’s situation. Edouard’s situation seems a bit more certain, as Neil Lennon has already made it clear that the Hoops are in talks to hand him a new contract. Lennon also hailed the manner in which Edouard has developed over the last few years at Parkhead.
That is a promising sign for Celtic fans, who would know Edouard’s importance to the club considering how he won the Player of the Year award for the 2019/20 season. He also finished as the highest scorer in the Premiership last season. That is a reflection of how vital a player Edouard is to Celtic and they can’t afford to lose him this summer.
