The Athletic’s Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin has recently made a claim about Boli Bolingoli, saying that the club tried to ‘offload’ the left-back in January.

Devlin recently hosted a Q&A session about Celtic and the fans asked him a lot of questions. One fan asked the journalist about Bolingoli and if relations between the club and the left-back are bad right now, suggesting that the left-back position is a ‘huge concern’ for the Hoops.

In reply to this question, Devlin claimed that he had heard ‘conflicting reports’ about whether a fallout had taken place between the club and Bolingoli or not and he wouldn’t like to ‘speculate or publish’ anything about what was reported. He also said that there was ‘enough’ in all of it to suggest that Celtic ‘tried’ to sell Bolingoli on the deadline day of the January transfer window.

Do you think Bolingoli has a future at Celtic?

Yes, he does

Yes, he does

No, he'll be sold

No, he'll be sold

Here’s what the journalist had to say in full: “On Bolingoli, I heard very conflicting reports at the time beyond that a major fallout had happened, and wouldn’t want to speculate or publish a load of he said/she said. The argument was enough that Celtic tried to offload him on the January deadline day, so whoever said or did what, it was fairly severe.”

TIF Thoughts…

Bolingoli, who is valued at £2.52m, hasn’t made a single Premiership appearance for the Bhoys since December. He has only made the bench on two occasions since the turn of the year, having not even been named in the squad in the rest of the games (via Transfermarkt).

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

While talking about the defender back in March, Neil Lennon had said that Bolingoli was ‘in and around’ the first team but it was ‘difficult’ for him to break into the team at that point. He also revealed that the defender was in his ‘thoughts’ until the end of the campaign (as per Daily Record).

This shows that something was certainly wrong with Bolingoli in the second half of last season. It will be interesting to see how this situation pans out in the 2020/21 season.
