Former player Kevin Phillips believes that Celtic have a ‘chance of signing’ former Manchester City and Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Phillips was recently talking to Football Insider and spoke about Joe Hart’s chances of moving to Parkhead in the summer. The Daily Record had recently claimed that the Hoops have already held talks to sign the Englishman and further talks for him were scheduled to take place.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

While talking about these rumours and about whether Hart could end up at Celtic or not, Phillips said that the goalkeeper ‘has a chance’ of signing for the Parkhead side this summer.

Here’s what Phillips had to say on the Hoops’ goalkeeping situation full: “It is an area that Celtic are looking for. If [Fraser] Forster does not go there, I hear that Joe Hart has a chance of signing. He may have something already lined up.”

Should Celtic sign Joe Hart?

Yes, I'd love it

I'd hate that

Phillips clearly seems to be optimistic about this and feels that the Hoops will strengthen in the goalkeeping department this summer.

TIF Thoughts…

Hart is currently a free agent after leaving Burnley at the end of June. He had joined the Lancashire club from Manchester City back in 2018. Before that, he had spent loan stints at West Ham United and Torino (via Transfermarkt).

In the 2019/20 season, Hart didn’t make a single Premier League appearance for Burnley and only played two FA Cup games and one League Cup match (via Transfermarkt).

This shows that Hart could be past his prime. He is currently 33 and unlike Fraser Forster, has no prior experience of playing in the Premiership. So in that sense, signing Hart could certainly be more of a risk than the current Southampton ‘keeper. Because of this, Celtic may be best placed to avoid a move for Hart.
