On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Michael Bridge, and Ricky Norwood have been reflecting on Spurs’ 2-1 win against Arsenal last weekend, as well as looking forward to the game against Newcastle United later this week.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Spurs Silence Arsenal‘, was Ryan Sessegnon. The 20-year-old is yet to play a single minute since the Premier League restart and was left on the bench once again during Spurs’ 2-1 win in the North London derby on Sunday (per BBC)

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what Bridge, who works for Sky Sports, had to say about the former Fulham man: (25:32)

“Now, I like Ben Davies but Spurs need someone to bomb down that wing. Now for me, it’s not Ryan Sessegnon yet, I think he could do with a year loan whether it be someone like Leeds or whoever, give him a loan in the Premier League because at the moment he’s wasting his time on the bench. But Spurs desperately need to address this full-back situation.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering Spurs spent £25 million on Sessegnon last summer, it is perhaps a surprise that he has made just six appearances in the Premier League so far this season. The fact that he hasn’t seen any game-time since the restart, despite Jose Mourinho having five substitutes available to him, does seem to back-up Bridge’s point that he is wasting his time at the North London club, and needs a loan move to ensure that his development isn’t stifled.

Does Sessegnon need a loan move?

The £28.35 million rated youngster won the EFL Championship Player of the Year award during his time with Fulham, so clearly has talent, but perhaps needs regular first-team football elsewhere before he can be considered ready to be a starter under Mourinho at Spurs.
