Journalist Alison McConnell has been talking about Martin Boyle and whether Celtic can sign the Hibernian man.

McConnell was a guest on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show. The panel talked about many potential transfers in Scottish football and one topic of discussion was Boyle and his future at Hibs. McConnell sounded unsure about whether the Hoops would want to sign the 27-year-old at this point.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

Boyle recently gave an interview to Sky Sports (via Daily Record) and he talked about his future at Hibs. He said that while he is entering the final year of his contract at the club, he wants to ‘give everything’ for Hibs and he is currently ‘not completely sure’ about where his future might lie.

Boyle was linked with a move to Celtic back in January and it was suggested that Neil Lennon is a ‘big admirer’ of the winger (Daily Mail via The Scotsman).

When talking about Boyle and whether he could move to Celtic, McConnell said:

“I’ve seen a bit of him. I like him, I think he’s got pace but I don’t know [if] there’ll be a place for him at Celtic, just given the players and personnel that are at the club at the minute.

Would you like Celtic to sign Boyle?

I'd like that!

I'd like that!

He's not good enough

“Neil Lennon will know him and know what he can do from his time at Hibs, too. I think he certainly has ambitions of going on and playing elsewhere and if he continues doing what he has done over the last season or two, I think there’ll certainly be interest.”

The journalist believes that while she isn’t sure about whether Celtic would want him or not, but Neil Lennon would have an idea about Boyle and the player himself has ‘ambitions’ to perhaps move away from Hibs soon.

TIF Thoughts…

Boyle has been at Hibs since the summer of 2015 and he’s made 188 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 34 goals and picking up 36 assists till now. That is a healthy output for someone who is predominantly a right-winger.

In the 2019/20 campaign, Boyle contributed to a total of 14 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions for Hibs.

It shows that he can be a reliable player on the right and could add some depth and quality to the Celtic first-team. So if not this summer, then the summer of 2021 might be a good time for Celtic to move for Boyle as his contract runs out at that point and the Hoops would be able to sign him for free.
