Scottish giants Celtic have been linked with a move to sign Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson.

German outlet Kicker (via Get German Football News) has reported that a host of clubs are interested in signing the striker and one of those clubs is Celtic. Other than the Bhoys, Newcastle United, Bournemouth, Leeds United, West Brom and Brentford are also said to be keeping an eye on him.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

The report claims that Andersson has got a release clause ‘in the mid-single-digit range’. However, from his potential sale to a club outside of Germany, Union Berlin will receive a transfer fee which would be up to 30 per cent more than the release clause.

Andersson was an important player for Union in the 2019/20 campaign. The 28-year-old Swede made 36 appearances in all competitions for the club from the German capital and found the back of the net 13 times as well. In the league, he found the net 12 times and got three assists (via Transfermarkt).

Do you see the point of Celtic signing Andersson?

TIF Thoughts…

Going by numbers, Andersson is a potent goalscorer and statistically, he has won the highest number of aerial duels per game of all players to have made more than the average number of appearances in the Bundesliga this season (7.4). It shows the sort of approach he has to the game and what his playing style exactly is.

While all of that shows that he is an effective player, the Hoops already have four striker options in the team currently. They have Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths, Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Bayo in the side so they might not need another striker to add to their ranks.

Andersson might be a good addition on paper but he is also 28 and not getting any younger. So perhaps the Hoops should avoid the move and focus on what they have.
