Barry Ferguson has made a claim on Celtic’s chances of potentially signing Fraser Forster this summer.
Ferguson recently featured on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel talked about many things involving Scottish football. One thing that Ferguson chose to focus on was Forster and if Celtic would still be trying to sign the Englishman.
It has previously been reported that Forster has chosen to stay at Southampton, but the Daily Express recently reported that the goalkeeper is a player that the Saints are looking to move on this summer.
While talking about whether Celtic’s move for the Englishman could still be on, Ferguson said: “If you asked Neil Lennon, asked the players at Celtic and even the supporters, they would want Fraser Forster back. I feel as if I’m repeating myself, [Forster is] a top-class goalkeeper, he earns you 12-15 points this season. Fraser Forster played a massive part last year for Celtic. I think he’s even better than he was first at Celtic, if I’m being honest with you.

“I know he was out of the picture for a year at Southampton, but he is a top-quality goalkeeper, there’s no doubt about it. When you’ve got a top-quality goalkeeper behind you, you know you’re in safe hands. I’m sure Neil Lennon will be trying everything possible to try and get Fraser Forster back. He was a difference sometimes when Celtic weren’t at their best last season. Fraser Forster came up with some massive saves. It’s a big position as well. When you’ve got a big, strong, commanding goalkeeper, it makes you feel at ease.”
Ferguson clearly has high praise for Forster and believes that everyone at Celtic would want the goalkeeper to be signed this summer.

Forster was on loan at Celtic last season and he saved a penalty in the League Cup final against Rangers and in the UEFA Europa League game against Copenhagen as well. He also came up with very good performances against the likes of Lazio, Cluj and Rennes.
He was a regular in the league for the Bhoys, making 28 appearances and keeping 14 clean sheets for them. He conceded only 17 goals as well (via Transfermarkt).
This shows that he is a quality goalkeeper and proves why Celtic fans would want him. With Vasilios Barkas being chased by Celtic, it will be interesting to see if they go back in for Forster once again.
