Houston Dynamo winger Alberth Elis has admitted that he has already talked about a potential Celtic switch with former Hoops man Emilio Izaguirre.

Elis recently gave an interview where he revealed that when he had played for Honduras, he had told Izaguirre to recommend him to Celtic. He revealed that he has spoken with the former Celtic left-back about the club, with Izaguirre describing the Parkhead side as being on ‘another level’.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

The report from the Daily Record also claims that the Hoops made a bid for the winger last year and that they have held a long-term interest in signing the player.

In the interview, Elis revealed that his dream is to play in Europe and compete in the Champions League. The report also claims that Elis is set to leave Houston Dynamo when his contract expires at the end of the year.

Does it make sense for Celtic to sign Elis?

Here is what he had to say in full: “When I first played for Honduras I asked Emilio to recommend me to Celtic. In fact, always ask him that!

“There are clubs who would be nice to play for because they are always challenging for titles and cups. I have spoken to Emilio about Celtic and he’s told me they are at another level. For me, since the day I left Olimpica, I’ve never hidden the fact that my dream is to go and play in Europe and compete in the Champions League.”

TIF Thoughts…

Elis is a right-winger by trade and can also play as a striker. He was a regular for his club in the 2019 MLS season. He had contributed to 19 goals in 31 games in all competitions. This year, he had scored nine goals and had picked up just as many assists in the league (via Transfermarkt).

This shows that Elis is certainly a talented player and he has proved that with his recent record. His main competition at Celtic would likely be James Forrest who was often first-choice on the right side for the Hoops in the 2019/20 season, making a total of 47 appearances (via Transfermarkt).

Therefore, Elis may have a fight on his hands for first-team football considering how often Forrest plays, so there could be an element of risk involved if the Honduras man ends up moving to Parkhead.
