The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has revealed that Wolverhampton Wanderers are not currently planning to be involved in the Champions League next season.

The Old Gold currently sit sixth in the Premier League trailing both Manchester United and Leicester City by four points (per BBC).

After Manchester City’s two-year European football ban was overturned on Monday (per BBC), only the top four will gain entry to the Champions League via their finish in the league.

While Wolves are mathematically within touching distance of a top-four finish, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers stated that the Old Gold were not planning for it.

He said: “From Wolves’ point of view, they haven’t planned for this, they’re not planning for Champions League football. It will be a bonus if they got it.

“So, they’re not losing out from where they are. I think at best, there will be slight disgruntlement [about City’s ban being overturned] from the Wolves hierarchy, but certainly publicly, they’re not going to kick up a fuss and they’re not going to upset the applecart.

“I think that’s for clubs higher up the chain to do, if anything. So, Wolves, like I say, they weren’t planning for it. It’s disappointing, but not entirely unexpected.”

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, it appears that the Old Gold are not planning for Champions League football next season and will not “upset the applecart” following Manchester City’s ban being overturned.
