Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to the reported news that Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie is available for around £20 million this summer.
According to Football Insider (via The Spurs Web), the north London club have been told it will cost around £20 million to sign the USA international in the upcoming summer transfer window. The report suggests that despite the 21-year-old being contracted until 2024, the Bundesliga side are keen to cash in on the midfielder due to their financial problems.
In the most recent Bundesliga season, the youngster averaged a solid, if unspectacular, 6.78 rating, across his 28 appearances in the German top flight (per WhoScored). Considering he is currently valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt, you could certainly argue that Spurs would be getting a decent deal if they were to sign him for £20 million ahead of next season.

One Spurs fan suggested that he would be a much better option than Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Lilywhites.
If that’s true, we should just sell KWP to Southampton and use that money to buy McKennie. He’s soooo much better than Hojbjerg imo. As an American, I’d be ECSTATIC if we signed him. Would be huge for increasing our fanbase in America too, which Levy would love
