West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has been discussing the future of the Hammers’ Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko.

The 30-year-old attacker has been at the club since the summer of 2018, having signed for the east London outfit from Borussia Dortmund for £18m (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, though, Yarmolenko has made just 28 appearances for the Irons, in which he has scored six goals and bagged two assists (per Transfermarkt).

So, in the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee discussed whether or not the winger’s future was at the London Stadium.

To start this quiz on Mark Noble with a tough one, in what year did the midfielder make his league debut for the Hammers?

He said: “Yarmolenko, technically, is very good but doesn’t have the kind of physique that you need to have to be at the top of the Premier League in terms of performances.

“So, in terms of his future, it’s difficult because the thing is he’s on a high wage. I’d say probably [Felipe] Anderson is the highest-paid player, then I think it probably is Yarmolenko as the second-highest-paid player.

“But I think with Yarmolenko, technically, he is a very good player and maybe, like what happened [against Chelsea], he’s the sort of player that needs to perhaps come on at that moment and change the game when the pace of the game has perhaps slowed down a little bit and it’s more to his standard.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the in-the-know pundit had to say, it seems that there is perhaps a spot for the Ukrainian as an impact sub, however, his wages could be too high for someone playing that role.

What should West Ham do with Andriy Yarmolenko in the summer transfer window?

Sell him, not good enough

Keep him, he does a job

This season, Yarmolenko has made 18 league appearances and has delivered a weak 6.53/10 average rating (per WhoScored). So, perhaps it would not be a surprise if he was shipped out in the summer to free up some of the wage budget.
