On the latest episode of Tottenham Hotspur podcast The Extra Inch, Chris Miller, Nathan Clark and @BardiTFC have been discussing the latest goings-on at the north London club, with a focus on some of the players who have been linked with the Lilywhites in recent weeks.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled ‘Sold Elvis, Bought the Beatles (Revisited)‘, was Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez. It was suggested earlier this week that Jose Mourinho was keen on signing the 28-year-old this summer, with Los Blancos expected to hold out for €25 million (£22.9 million) for the Spanish international.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

This led to a discussion of the winger on the Extra Inch podcast, with Clark providing a summary on the potential signing, saying:

“He’s a very talented, raw, highly, highly, dribbly, young winger. I don’t know why they’d want to sell him, I don’t know why he would be interested. I don’t know why we keep being linked with wingers. I don’t know.”

However, once the trio realise that he is actually 28 years old, and therefore perhaps not that young, Miller makes this assessment:

“That would be the worst signing in the world, why would we do that?”

TIF Thoughts…

It is perhaps understandable why Miller feels it would be a disappointing signing, as the Spanish winger has averaged a poor 6.74/10 rating across his 14 appearances in La Liga so far this season (per WhoScored). Jose Mourinho’s side is also arguably well-stocked when it comes to wingers, with the likes of Heung-min Son, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, and Erik Lamela all available to play in Vazquez’s position.

Do you agree that Vazquez would be a disappointing signing?

Therefore, considering the price that has been reportedly quoted by Real Madrid, we agree with Miller that Spurs would be better off attempting to strengthen elsewhere in the summer transfer window.
