Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to the reported news that both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were against the Newcastle United takeover which was officially abandoned on Thursday.
A Saudi-based consortium had been attempting to buy the North East club from Mike Ashley but after months of the deal being with the Premier League, it was finally called off earlier this week (per BBC). According to the Daily Mirror (via The Spurs Web), Spurs and Liverpool were reportedly two of 10 Premier League clubs who had a role in blocking the deal from happening.
The takeover would have seen Newcastle’s new owners become the richest in the Premier League, with the Toon reportedly likely to be handed a huge transfer budget, whilst former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was also being touted as a prospective managerial choice.
