Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane slammed Tottenham’s mentality following the 0-0 draw against Bournemouth on Thursday evening.

The Lilywhites produced a disappointing display at the Vitality Stadium, failing to test Bournemouth keeper Aaron Ramsdale, and were perhaps lucky to even get a point, considering Callum Wilson’s late effort was ruled out by VAR after it deflected off Joshua King’s arm on the way into the net (per BBC).

Here’s what Keane had to say about the performance and the problems at the north London club following the game:

“Yeah, Tottenham were poor tonight. Bournemouth showed a bit more fight, a bit more energy. When you analyse Tottenham and you watch Tottenham closely, then we shouldn’t be surprised, because they’ve got that type of performance in their make-up. We’ve seen it regularly over the years.

“They went to Sheffield United last week, [Jose] Mourinho spoke about it, [they] didn’t show any fight. He had to make changes at half-time. That is in Tottenham’s DNA, they will constantly disappoint you. When you look at the table, the table doesn’t lie. At this moment in time, Tottenham are ninth in the table. That’s where they deserve to be.”

TIF Thoughts…

We can understand Keane’s point about Spurs perhaps having a poor mentality in their DNA, considering the Lilywhites’ last trophy came in 2008. Although defensively they have improved since the restart, earning their second consecutive clean sheet in the stalemate against Bournemouth, the fact is that they didn’t come close to scoring, with no shots on target in the whole game, despite the relegation-threatened hosts being in truly awful form.

Spurs fans will no doubt be disappointed by the latest result and it certainly doesn’t set them up well for the north London Derby on Sunday.
