On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Jamie Brown, Lee McQueen and Daniel Merriman have been discussing the latest goings-on at the North London club and looking ahead to Thursday night’s fixture against Sheffield United.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Another Cup Final‘, was former manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentinian was pictured recently alongside his son Maurizio after he extended his contract with the Lilywhites, and the former manager could be seen wearing a Spurs t-shirt (per The Telegraph).

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

This led to a discussion on the podcast on whether or not the former Southampton boss is perhaps attempting to undermine Jose Mourinho, or whether he genuinely just loves the club, despite being sacked in November of last year.

Here’s what McQueen had to say about the 48-year-old manager:

“I think the fact that he is wearing the shirt and he’s got these pictures and stuff, it’s massively fond memories. He will be back. I’ve actually always said from day one when Mourinho was appointed, he’s an interim manager.

“He’s never stayed at a club longer than three and a half years. So if we can get three years out of Mourinho and he wins us trophies that we’re all longing for, I think ‘Poch’ could be back sooner rather than later.”

TIF Thoughts…

It is certainly a bold statement to suggest that Mourinho is just an interim manager and that Pochettino will one day return. Of course, the North London side are without a trophy since their 2008 League Cup win, and considering the Portuguese manager’s previous achievements, you could argue that he has been brought in to deliver short-term success.

Do you think Pochettino will return to Spurs?

No

However, the image of Pochettino wearing the Spurs t-shirt certainly suggests that he still loves the club, so perhaps we will see him return, maybe after Mourinho has won a trophy or two.
