On the latest episode of the View from The Lane podcast for The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke, James Maw and Dan Kilpatrick from the Evening Standard have been reflecting on Tottenham Hotspur’s 2019/20 campaign, and looking ahead to next season.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Spurs Season Review’, was the future of Spurs defender Serge Aurier. The Ivory Coast international has enjoyed an excellent season with the Lilywhites having become a mainstay of the team in the Premier League, averaging a 7.06 rating across his 33 appearances in the top-flight, which saw him rated as the north London club’s third-best performer (per WhoScored).

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

However, Kilpatrick suggested the 27-year-old could be a player to move on this summer on the podcast, saying:

“I think Aurier is another one who’s got two years left from now. I think he will push for a move in the summer because he always pushes for a move in the summer. That might be a decision that Spurs are a bit more proactive with taking, this time.”

TIF Thoughts…

Aurier did indeed push for a move away from Spurs last summer but was prevented from leaving by Mauricio Pochettino following Kieran Trippier’s move to Atletico Madrid (per Daily Mail). Despite his impressive season this year, there have still been suggestions that the former PSG man could be on the move, and Kilpatrick certainly seems to think that he could be keen on a move away.

However, with fellow right-back Kyle Walker-Peters being tipped to join Southampton, perhaps the club would once again be unwilling to see the 27-year-old leave. When Jose Mourinho joined Spurs, he reportedly suggested to Aurier that he wanted to turn him into a world-class right-back, so it would perhaps be a surprise to see him leave this summer when you consider all these factors.
