John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose has claimed that he would swap Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez for West Ham United’s Angelo Ogbonna.

Sanchez signed for Spurs from Ajax in the summer of 2017 in a deal reportedly worth £36m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) and since his arrival, the Colombian has gone on to make 113 appearances for the club.

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

The 24-year-old has been a regular for the North London club this season, starting in 73% of Spurs’ Premier League fixtures so far, making a total of 25 appearances (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).

It appears, however, that Spurs journalist John Wenham has not been impressed by his performances and named another centre-back in the division he would swap him for. Speaking on a recent edition of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, he said:

“Davinson Sanchez is a player that divides opinion, certainly amongst our fans. I was a huge a fan, especially in his first and second season, he was really, really superb for us and had some great games, but unfortunately, he really hasn’t kicked on and what really hammered it home to me was I was watching Chelsea v West Ham the other night and I saw Angelo Ogbonna and I just thought to myself ‘would I swap Sanchez for him?’ and on that night, certainly, yes I would.”

TIF Thoughts…

According to WhoScored.com, Sanchez’s average performance rating in the English top-flight this season currently stands at 6.69/10 in comparison to Ogbonna’s which is a slightly lower rating of 6.68/10 (stats accurate ahead of Wednesday’s fixtures).

Given that Ogbonna joined West Ham for a fee of £9.9m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) and Spurs paid more than three times that amount for their central-defender you can understand why Wenham may be frustrated.

There are eight years between the two players in terms of their ages and so that must be taken into consideration when comparing the transfer fees but it’s clear that this Spurs writer wants to see more from Sanchez.
