Fans of Tottenham Hotspur have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has turned down several job offers.

According to the reports by Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), Barcelona wanted the 48-year-old to replace Quique Setien as the club’s manager next season, while Portuguese side Benfica have also approached the Argentinian.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

However, the reports go on to claim that Pochettino rejected all offers made to him – due to his desire to return to the Premier League.

And, after these reports were relayed on Twitter by The Spurs Web, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many calling for the club to bring Pochettino back to North London.

While these Spurs fans would clearly like the 48-year-old to make what would be a rather sensational return to the club, it would appear what they fail to notice is that the reports claim that Pochettino is actually ‘close to’ taking over at Newcastle United.

However, it is stated in the reports that any move for Pochettino by the North East club could depend on whether or not Newcastle’s proposed takeover goes through.

With this being said, the fact that the Spurs currently occupy eighth place in the Premier League table means that it is not an impossible scenario to imagine that Jose Mourinho – who took over from Pochettino as Tottenham manager – could be facing the sack sooner rather than later – if he does not improve the league performance of the side.

And, should the job become available, it is also not difficult to imagine Pochettino being interested in having another crack of the whip at Spurs, something which it is obvious these Tottenham fans would love to see.

There are a number of variables to consider regarding the future of Pochettino – such as whether or not Newcastle’s mooted takeover receives Premier League approval – however, what is clear from these comments is that many of the Spurs fans would love the 48-year-old to make a return to their club.
