Journalist Daniel Storey has been raving about Chris Wilder and has made his admiration very clear for him.

Storey was recently a guest on the latest episode of the Totally Football Show podcast. The panel was talking about many things involving the Premier League’s weekend fixtures. Storey talked about Sheffield United and had high praise for how Wilder has turned things around for the Blades.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

The Yorkshire club recently picked up an impressive 3-0 win over Frank Lampard’s Chelsea. David McGoldrick grabbed a brace, while Oliver McBurnie also scored a goal (via WhoScored).

When talking about Wilder’s abilities to turn the tide around at the club, Storey said:

“That ability to bounce back from the little rut they’ve been in immediately post-restart as well, says everything about Chris Wilder and his man-management and his motivation. It can look a bit brash, it can look a bit direct at times and it can look a bit foolish when they lose games.

Have Sheffield United been the story of the season?

Absolutely!

Absolutely!

Not for me

Not for me

“But you cannot doubt the way he manages to assemble a group of players who have no right to be where they are. They had that rut and yet they’ve still taken as many points as Liverpool in the last eight league games. So it shows the high standards by which we’re judging a promoted team that we were all worried about them after failing to win for three games. That’s normally the standard for promoted clubs and in the space of a very long year, they’ve altered those preconceptions.”

Storey believes that while the Blades hadn’t started well post-lockdown, Wilder has done well to help the side turn the form around and it shows how good a manager he is.

TIF Thoughts…

The club was held to a 0-0 draw by Aston Villa in their first game post-lockdown. They then lost 3-0 to Newcastle United and lost to Manchester United by the same margin as well. But after that loss to United, the Blades have been unbeaten in four Premier League games. They have beaten the likes of Wolves, Tottenham and now Chelsea (via Whoscored).

The club is now seventh in the table, one point behind Wolves and four behind Man Utd at the time of writing. It shows that they are in the race for securing Europa League football. The recent upsurge in form has helped them get back in the race for European football and finishing in those Europa League spots will be huge for the club, considering this is their first season back in the Premier League.
