In the latest video on his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur and looked ahead to their game against Everton on Monday night.

One topic of conversation on his recent video was Jose Mourinho’s future with the club and whether or not he can stick to Spurs’ philosophy when it comes to building for the future. Very rarely in Mourinho’s managerial career has he lasted more than three years with a club and it seems as if Gold can’t see him committing to any potential rebuild job with the Lilywhites.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about the Portuguese manager and the need to rebuild at Spurs:

“If Mourinho is going to be crammed or crowbarred into this long-running ENIC philosophy – the Daniel Levy way of buying young and creating players – is he going to be able to do anything in the short-term? Or is it always going to be a long-term potential thing with Tottenham? I don’t think Mourinho’s the man for that.

“Mourinho is your man to bring you short-term success that you can then build on with later managers, we know about his three-year thing. If you are saying to Mourinho, ‘here’s stuff so we can build slowly’, [I] can’t see it happening. I can’t see how that works, so you’re going to have to really, really, really, probably more so than ever, make sure that these are the right signings.”

TIF Thoughts…

Gold clearly feels that Mourinho is not with Spurs for the long-term and therefore may not buy into the idea of a rebuild. The Portuguese manager is currently contracted until 2023 and the way things are going currently, with Spurs languishing in 10th position ahead of Monday’s game against Everton, you can’t see him staying on past that date.

Is Mourinho here for the long-term rebuild?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The former Real Madrid boss has been a serial winner in his career so far, and Lilywhites supporters will no doubt be hoping that he can be the man to deliver their first trophy since 2008, but as Gold points out, there is the potential worry that he simply won’t fit in with Spurs’ way of doing things.
