In the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on the 3-0 win against Leicester City last weekend, as well as some members of Jose Mourinho’s squad and looking at some potential transfers the north London club could complete this summer.

One topic of conversation on the recent video was the signing of Wigan Athletic midfielder Alfie Devine. It has been widely reported that Spurs have completed the signing of the 15-year-old from the North West side, perhaps taking advantage of their current financial troubles. Although he is likely to be with the academy teams rather than anywhere near the first-team for a few years, Gold certainly seems excited by his potential.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what he had to say about Devine in his recent video:

“The first deal that Spurs are going to do looks to be the young player, Alfie Devine, the Wigan teenager. Before you get very excited, [he’s a] very talented player, don’t get me wrong, as he only turns 16 next month, this will be one for the academy. [He’s a] very, very big talent to go into the academy, probably Under-18s to begin with, and then work his way into the development squad as well, but [he’s] certainly one for the future.”

TIF Thoughts…

Gold certainly seems excited by Devine’s potential, which seems like great news for Spurs. It was only in June that the youngster committed his long-term future to Paul Cook’s side, but it seems as if their financial issues have had an impact and they felt the need to cash in on him.

Hopefully, the young midfielder will be able to continue his progress with the North London club’s academy sides, then perhaps in a few years, we will see him pushing for a spot in the first-team with the Lilywhites.
