While speaking recently on the Football Writers Podcast, Adrian Clarke discussed Tottenham manager, Jose Mourinho.

Following a fourth-place finish in last season’s Premier League, as well as reaching the Champions League final of the 2018/19 season, it seems a fair assumption to make that Tottenham haven’t quite hit the heights of last year so far this term.

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

The club currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League table (prior to Wednesday’s Premier League fixtures), were knocked out of the Champions League by RB Leipzig in the round of 16, were eliminated by League Two side Colchester United in the EFL Cup third round and were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fifth round by Norwich City.

In addition to this, the club’s long term manager Mauricio Pochettino was sacked in November, and has been replaced with Jose Mourinho – who has, so far, taken charge of 30 games for Spurs – winning 13, drawing six and losing 11 of these fixtures.

And, on the subject of Tottenham’s struggles this year, Adrian Clarke recently stated on the Football Writers Podcast that he feels Mourinho ‘doesn’t give a hoot’ about the club’s identity, as well as claiming that he believes the Portuguese manager isn’t ‘what he used to be’.

He said: “I don’t think Jose Mourinho gives a hoot about a club’s identity, or past, particularly, or the culture, so to speak. He’s just himself, isn’t he?

“I don’t think he is what he used to be, unfortunately. I don’t believe that modern players respond to his style of management. And also I think – and I’m not calling him a dinosaur – but I don’t think he has moved with the times and he struggles against some of these modern thinkers that have emerged as dugout rivals for him.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, it would certainly appear that Clarke is not of the belief that Mourinho was a particularly inspiring appointment for Spurs, claiming that the 57-year-old is more interested in himself than the club, as well as being out of touch with the modern game.
