A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to a post from journalist Paul Smith after he slammed the Premier League for allowing their checks of the proposed takeover of Newcastle United to drag on.
This tweet came after Hatice Cengiz, the fiancée of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi, appeared on Good Morning Britain to express her view on why the Saudi-backed takeover of the Toon should be blocked.
It is clear that the Premier League’s delays have annoyed Smith and also many Newcastle fans who let rip on the PL.
Do you think the PL are a disgrace?
Yes, they have turned this into a shambles
No, they are just doing their job
Beyond a joke and welcoming people against the takeover with open arms. #SackRichardMasters

The @premierleague have shown themselves up. Chaos, disorganisation and currupt in my view. The ODT seems not fit for purpose and needs radical changes and the @premierleague need better leadership #NUFCTakeover #announcetakeover

The deal for Mike Ashley to sell Newcastle United to Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium was agreed in April.
However, here we are in July, and the Premier League are still checking the deal.
The whole process has played out in public, and it has led to complaints from Cengiz, Amnesty International, and BeIN Sports over various problems and issues.
What might not have helped is Richard Masters’ refusal to talk about any aspect of the takeover, insisting that the process is entirely confidential.
Even when grilled by MPs, he would not reveal anything.
This has clearly annoyed many Newcastle fans who continued to slam the Premier League.
@premierleague are disgrace!

You know like I do, it’s gone beyond the O&D test and now it’s what can we get from the Saudi’s before we approve it. Which is criminal.

They don’t want it to happen that’s why it’s allowed to drag and more stuff to enter the media hoping PIF goes away.Totally unfit as an organisation to make/bottle a decision. Keep Elite on their perch’s no jumped up northerners

Matt Slater believes that the delays could be down to the Premier League, seeing an opportunity to end piracy in Saudi Arabia.
However, even if that were the case, surely Masters could say something about it?
Instead of leaving this wall of silence, that is clearly frustrating many Toon supporters; however, he did say that he hopes to have reached a conclusion on this saga ‘shortly’.
Hopefully, he is right, and Newcastle can move on either without or without Ashley as their owner.
