On the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur and discussing some of the transfer business that the Lilywhites could conduct this summer.

One topic of discussion on his recent video was Barcelona midfielder and reported Spurs transfer target, Philippe Coutinho. It has been suggested in recent months that the Lilywhites are one of several teams interested in taking the former Liverpool man on loan ahead of next season, although his wage demands are likely to cause an issue for the North London club.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what Gold said about Spurs’ chances of signing the Brazilian on loan next season:

“I’ve had a fair few people asking about Philippe Coutinho as well as that advanced playmaker. Personally, I think he would be amazing; my issue with it is the figures being spoken about.

“For a 28-year-old, it’s so ‘un-Spurs like’, I think you’re looking at somewhere between £25-30 million for a season loan, which is incredible. That’s just not the way Spurs operate.”

TIF Thoughts…

By the sounds of things, Barcelona and Coutinho’s demands would perhaps prove too much for Spurs this summer, but there is no questioning that he would be a superb addition to Jose Mourinho’s side if he were to join.

The Brazilian showed his class for Bayern Munich in both games against Spurs in last season’s Champions League fixtures; earning an 8.01 rating in the 7-2 win at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, and an 8.95 rating in the 3-1 home win.

Would signing Coutinho on loan be worth the money?

Despite his impressive performances for the German side in the Bundesliga; where he averaged a 7.22 rating, they were seemingly not keen to make his loan stay permanent, meaning that Barcelona are once again looking to get the 28-year-old off their books this summer, whether that be on a permanent deal or just on loan.

Unfortunately for Spurs fans, from what Gold says, the North London club will most likely not be the former Liverpool man’s next destination.
