On a recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, host Ant McGinley was joined by Feargal Brennan and The Athletic’s Sam Lee to discuss all things Premier League and one of the topics that came up was the future of Southampton star Danny Ings.

After joining Southampton on loan from Liverpool for the 2018/19 season, Ings subsequently made his move to St. Mary’s permanent last summer. The 27-year-old striker has played a significant role for the Saints this term, scoring 18 of Southampton’s 42 Premier League goals during the 2019/20 campaign.

To kick off this 1990s Premier League quiz, which season was the Premier League's inaugural campaign?

Only two players have scored more Premier League goals than Ings this term at present and Brennan shared his thoughts on Southampton’s ‘reliance’ on the attacker, as well as the 27-year-old’s future.

Brennan said: “I think there is obviously a reliance on Danny Ings, but for me, they’re saved by Danny Ings’ quite unique situation because Danny Ings could win the Golden Boot this season, potentially – I don’t think he will, I think he’ll get edged out, but he’ll certainly finish high up there.

“But I don’t see him leaving. I don’t see another club that comes in for him, I don’t see another club where he fits. That’s not to say he’s not good enough to play a bit higher than Southampton, but they’ve essentially got him locked in. He’s from the area, he wants to play for Southampton, he wants to drive Southampton on.”

Do you think that Danny Ings will be a Southampton player next season?

OF COURSE HE WILL

OF COURSE HE WILL

HE DEFINITELY WON'T

HE DEFINITELY WON'T

TIF Thoughts…

While Ings is currently in third place in the race for the 2019/20 Premier League Golden Boot, the Saints currently sit in 13th place in the league table, so it may be understandable why there could be concerns over the attacker’s future among some Saints fans.

However, Brennan seems to believe that there isn’t too much to worry about with regard to Ings leaving St. Mary’s, as he is happy at Southampton at present, and that may be good news for Saints fans.
