Steve Wraith has been speaking on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with the Shields Gazette’s Liam Kennedy.
He revealed that he thinks the Premier League will be in a position to announce a decision on the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by the weekend.
Wraith left most of the talking to guest Kennedy, but he did provide an interesting view on when he believes the PL might make an announcement on Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed bid to take the Toon from Mike Ashley.
Here is what he had to say:
“My research and chats with a few people today [Tuesday] hasn’t really harvested a great deal of information, but I do feel that the atmosphere around this whole takeover is reaching boiling point.
“I still believe we will get some kind of answer by this weekend; I think that the end of the season is the right time for the Premier League to come out and say something.”
So, it seems as if Wraith believes that the PL will make a decision on this takeover by the weekend, but it is unclear where he has got that idea from. In a previous episode of his podcast, he had suggested that an announcement following the season’s conclusion would ‘make perfect sense‘, so perhaps he is simply sticking to his guns on the matter.

Wraith has remained very positive throughout this takeover, as a look through his Twitter timeline will reveal; however, this latest claim just seems to be a bit of guesswork on when he thinks the Premier League will make an announcement.
However, it would certainly something of a thrill if the Premier League was to finally make their decision public after months of talks.
The truth is that nobody knows, while many have had a go at predicting when the league would make an announcement, only to be wrong (35:45).
The Sun’s Neil Custis had claimed that the takeover would be done by 1st June, yet here we are nearly two months later, and still, nothing has happened.
So, we will wait and see if Wraith is right or if he will also get a prediction on the timing of the PL’s decision wrong.
