Michael Chopra has been on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith and has been discussing the report linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a move to Tyneside.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Chopra talked about various topics but spent a little bit of time on the report that the Toon’s new owners were looking at a move for Ronaldo.

Here is what the former Newcastle striker had to say about the £54m-rated 35-year-old moving to Tyneside.

“It baffled me [the Ronaldo rumour]; I mean, if you want to bring a superstar to the club and you want to make a point, and you want to sell millions of shirts worldwide, then you go and sign Ronaldo or [Lionel] Messi.

“I’m not quite sure Ronaldo would sign for Newcastle.”

Chopra then provided his view on some of the names linked to the Toon since this takeover story hit the press.

“It makes you laugh at times, the players that are getting mentioned.

“I think [Karim] Benzema got mentioned yesterday [Saturday] I think it was, when you’re hearing these players it makes you laugh.”

It seems as if Chopra is not convinced that Ronaldo would move to St James’ Park, and he seems to think that many of the players that the Toon have been linked with are unrealistic.

TIF Thoughts…

Ronaldo is just the latest on a list of players that includes Kalidou Koulibaly and Philippe Coutinho as supposed targets for the new owners.

However, considering they have not received approval from the Premier League, it seems a bit premature to talk about targets for the new regime.

They still have to have their deal passed by the PL, and after paying a deposit to Mike Ashley in April, they are still waiting to hear back from the Premier League regarding their takeover.
