Luke Edwards has been on the latest edition of True Faith’s NUFC Podcast and has been discussing the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Edwards spent a little bit of time on the takeover as he spent most of his time talking about Steve Bruce.

However, he did provide some insight on the takeover, and while discussing his attitude to any takeover bid for Newcastle, he revealed what he knows about the bid from Henry Mauriss.

“My attitude to all takeovers has been exactly the same; I’ve had no different attitude to this [Amanda] Staveley bid as I’ve had to every other single bid and Henry Mauriss.

“People keep talking and saying ‘you’re pushing Henry Mauriss’ – I don’t know anything about Henry Mauriss, all I am told is that it’s a credible bid and the money is there, I don’t know what he’s going to do.”

So, it seems as if Mauriss’ bid, according to Edwards’ sources, is credible but apart from that, he knows little else about the American.

Do you think Mauriss is a credible bidder?

No, he will disappear if this Staveley one fails

Yes, he could be a good back-up option

TIF Thoughts…

Mauriss’ interest emerged in April, and then in June, it was claimed that he had made a bid of £350m for Newcastle, so Mauriss’ interest has never gone away, and according to Edwards, it is real, and the money is there to make it happen. (52:20)

Mike Ashley and Mauriss can now start discussing a deal as the Amanda Staveley Saudi-backed bid has hit an impasse with the Premier League and they have lost their exclusivity.

If the PL do decide to reject it, then Mauriss could be a credible back-up option for the Toon, but we are still waiting for a Premier League decision on the Saudi bid first.
