Liam Kennedy of the Shields Gazette joined Steve Wraith on a recent episode of NUFC Matters to discuss a number of topics relating to the Magpies.

During the live stream, a fan posed a question with regards to the prospective owners and whether or not they will have a ‘shopping list’ of potential signings made up already for when they take control of the club. Here is how the journalist responded:

“No potential owner of a football club is going to turn up cold. They will have plans in place. I know for a fact they have got plans in place, there are certain players that they want to target. Unfortunately, I’m not sure exactly what level of player they are, but you can only imagine they will probably be at a slightly different level to the type of supermarket we’ll be shopping in under Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce.

“We can only hope that things get resolved before October because I do genuinely think there will be a big flash of money coming our way if that’s the case.”

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

TIF Thoughts…

It’s clear that Kennedy is excited by what new owners coming into the club would mean for Newcastle United’s aspirations in the transfer market. However, the Premier League is yet to give the proposed takeover the green light, despite the owners’ and directors’ test process having started back in April.

Are you convinced the prospective owners have specific transfer targets already listed?

Yes

No

No

It’s understood that the process usually takes up to four weeks to complete and so you can understand why some fans may be concerned by the length of time it has taken so far. The Magpies finished the 2019/20 Premier League season in 13th place and given Kennedy has suggested that the takeover would allow the club to shop for a higher calibre of player, we believe there is reason for the St. James’ Park faithful to be more optimistic about what they can achieve under the ownership of the Saudi-backed consortium.
