The Guardian reporter Barry Glendenning has recently aired some criticism of Everton’s Brazilian forward Richarlison.

The Toffees secured the services of the 23-year-old forward from Watford during the summer of 2018 in a deal with an initial fee of £35m which had the potential to rise to the £50m mark (per BBC).

Since his arrival at Goodison Park, Richarlison has bagged an impressive 29 goals and six assists in 79 appearances for Everton (per Transfermarkt).

Furthermore, this season, the former Hornets man has been the Toffees’ best-performing player in the Premier League with an impressive 7.19/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

However, in Monday’s episode of The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, Glendenning slated Richarlison despite his impressive statistics when rounding up the weekend’s results.

He said: “Just sticking with this [Bournemouth] game; someone asked if I was in ‘I told you so’ mode regarding Bournemouth finally going down.

“I’m not, but I’ll tell you I am a little bit in ‘I told you so’ mode over Richarlison, who continues to leave me resolutely unimpressed.

“I got an awful pasting from some Everton fans for suggesting he might not be worth the £40m or £45m or whatever they paid for him.

“I still think he’s alright, but he’s certainly no world-beater.”

TIF Thoughts…

Seemingly, the journalist does not overly rate Richarlison despite the fact he has been the Toffees’ best-performing player in the league this season and scored 13 league goals.

Do you think Everton overpaid by spending up to £50m on Richarlison?

No, he was worth it

Yes, it was too much

Furthermore, the forward has a market value of £46.8m according to Transfermarkt, so, it is not as though the player has lost much, if any value from what Everton forked out to sign him.

So, it would seem that Glendenning is being overly harsh on the Brazilian.
