Newcastle United news Twitter account @NUFC360 caught the attention of plenty of Toon supporters recently after they posted a tweet sharing the news that Sheffield United centre-back Chris Basham is allegedly ‘attracting interest’ from Newcastle.

This alleged transfer news originated from a report that was recently published by the Daily Mail which states that the 31-year-old Blades defender has caught the eye of the Toon, as well as Burnley, as his current contract is set to expire next summer.

After this tweet from @NUFC360 shared that the North East club are said to be interested in signing the £2.16m-rated defender, plenty of Newcastle United fans replied to this post to share their thoughts on this potential deal.

Some Toon fans replied to this post to share that this is the type of transfer that they could see Newcastle manager Steve Bruce making.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Newcastle United are currently subject to a Saudi-backed takeover bid that, if approved, would reportedly see them overtake Manchester City to become the Premier League side with the wealthiest owners

Basham was born in the North East of England and was released by Newcastle as a teenager, so he might fancy a move back to Tyneside.

So, after this news about the club’s alleged interest in signing Basham was shared on Twitter, some Newcastle fans replied to this post to share that they don’t believe this is a signing that the club would make if the takeover bid does go through.

Meanwhile, one Newcastle fan replied to this tweet to share that they don’t think Basham would move to St. James’ Park unless the Saudi-backed Toon takeover bid is approved.

Would you like to see Chris Basham at St. James' Park?

NO, NOT AT ALL

NO, NOT AT ALL

Sheffield United have conceded 20 goals fewer than Newcastle United in the Premier League this season and Basham has played in all 36 of the club’s Premier League fixtures so far this term.

Furthermore, football stats website WhoScored give Basham a higher rating in the Premier League than any other Blades player for the 2019/20 campaign, so with that in mind, it may be fair to say that Basham has enjoyed a positive season and signing the 31-year-old may not be as bad for Newcastle as some of these Toon fans seem to think it would be.
