Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reveals that Steve Bruce has stated that he is ‘in a position to make moves in the transfer market’.
There has been much speculation about both the short and long-term future of Newcastle United, with the club currently in the midst of a £300 million Saudi Arabia-backed takeover bid.
However, despite the fact that who exactly the owners of Newcastle United will be next season remains unclear, Downie recently revealed on Twitter that the Magpies boss, Steve Bruce, has said that he will be able to sign players this summer, and ‘already has a few things in the pipeline’.
In reaction to this news, fans of Newcastle flocked to have their say on the matter, with many suggesting that the fact Bruce is planning transfers this summer is not good news for the mooted takeover.
Just looks like we'll be stuck with Ashley and Bruce, no takeover then? We are definitely going down next season

What a mess the @premierleague has allowed us to be in! The other 19 teams can plan meticulously while we don’t know who our owners are for the next season and what our finances look like? Or even if Bruce will be the manager of new owners get a green light! We just want clarity!

@AnthonyIAnson we’re not getting took over then

We have to say, the fact that Newcastle are reportedly planning to spend money under their current owner, Mike Ashley, would not appear to bode well for the likelihood that their takeover will be approved by the Premier League, as, we presume, it is unlikely that Ashley would want to invest money in a project that he would no longer be involved with if the takeover goes through.
As one Newcastle fan points out, the fact that the Premier League are still yet to give a decision on the matter, despite the league assessing the potential deal for over three months now, may impact the Toon negatively in the transfer market, as the uncertainty surrounding the club’s future could prove to put potential new signings off of joining the club.
I thought the club couldn’t make tranafers if they’re under going q takeover

With the 2019/20 Premier League season very nearly over, it still remains unclear whether or not the Newcastle takeover is going to be approved.
Do you still hope the takeover goes through?
Yes
No
In order for the club to plan its future accordingly, it is our opinion that the Premier League should make a decision on the takeover deal in the very short future, in order to allow the club to plan appropriately over the summer break, ahead of the 2020/21 season.
