A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from George Caulkin after he heard Steve McManaman praise the Magpies’ season as ‘fantastic’.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

This triggered Caulkin to launch into a rant, and his post gained a lot of replies from many Newcastle fans who agreed with him and slagged off McManaman.

McManaman was there for the Toon’s 5-0 thrashing against Manchester City, where City set a new record for percentage of passes completed, perhaps showing the difference between the two sides.

Do you agree that McManaman got it totally wrong?

Yes, he has no idea what he is talking about

No, he is right

No, he is right

However, that did not stop the former Liverpool man hailing the job Steve Bruce has done and also claiming they had scored lots of goals.

This post from Caulkin continued to attract the attention of many Newcastle fans, who were not happy with McManaman’s comments.

Bruce has kept Newcastle up for another season, and they are in 13th place with 43 points, so in that regard, he has done a good job.

However, to say Newcastle have been ‘fantastic’ and have scored lots of goals is probably wrong.

The Toon have been thrashed by Leicester City, Arsenal and Manchester City over the course of the season, and up until the restart, they were the joint-lowest goalscorers in the Premier League.

There have been calls for Bruce to be considered for Manager of the Year, though Jurgen Klopp or Chris Wilder are arguably more deserving of that accolade for their respective sides’ achievements this year.

The former Sunderland manager has done well to keep Newcastle in the Premier League.

Still, he is responsible for two of Newcastle’s most expensive signings in their history in his squad, while Martin Dubravka has made the most saves in the division.

It seems to many Newcastle fans that McManaman got his comments horribly wrong on the Toon.
