Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports by The Athletic’s George Caulkin and Chris Waugh, who reveal there is a ‘slim possibility the takeover can be revived’.

Following the news that Newcastle’s mooted £300 million takeover deal was over, after Saudi Arabia’s PIF, PCP Capital Partners and the Reuben Brothers pulled out of the bid, there has been much reaction in the media as to why the proposed deal fell through.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

One such reactive article was published on The Athletic, with Newcastle correspondents for the website, George Caulkin and Chris Waugh, outlining the intricacies of exactly how and why the deal fell through.

However, in the article, it was revealed that there may be a slither of hope for fans of the club that the deal could be ‘revived’, as a source close to the bid revealed: “I don’t know if this is the end of it.”

After this news was relayed on Twitter by NUFC 360, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with reaction being mixed as to whether the fans are pleased to hear this news, or would rather just move on from the takeover.

With the proposed takeover going on for roughly 16 weeks, Newcastle’s potential new owners pulling out of the deal is obviously not the outcome that the majority of the fans wanted.

Do you believe that there is a slim chance the takeover deal could still go through?

However, it would also seem that now the takeover bid appears to be completely dead, many of the fans would rather just put it behind them rather than getting their hopes up once again.

However, one fan took a more optimistic approach.

While it certainly appears, from the outside, that there doesn’t seem a way for the Saudi-backed deal to go through now, it would appear, according to the reports, that there is actually the faintest chance of a bid for the club returning at some point.

That viewpoint may hold some weight, with current owner Mike Ashley since declaring he remains ‘100 per cent committed‘ to the Saudi-led takeover despite this week’s withdrawal, while as recently as this Wednesday, Saudi Arabia was thought to be appealing the World Trade Organisation’s ruling on piracy in the country.

However, it would seem, from their comments, the majority of Newcastle fans are not interested in The Athletic’s claim.
