Following Newcastle United’s 5-0 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday evening, many Toon fans flocked to Twitter to react to the game and some Magpies supporters aired some frustration about Nabil Bentaleb’s performance.

Bentaleb joined the Toon on loan from Schalke back in January and the midfielder has made eight Premier League appearances for Newcastle since completing his move to the club.

In his most recent Premier League appearance for the Toon, Bentaleb completed two successful tackles, two interceptions, as well as 29 accurate passes – the highest number that was completed by any Newcastle player in this game.

However, as per WhoScored, the Algerian also committed an error that resulted in City scoring their fifth and final goal.

Toon news Twitter account @NUFC360 criticised Bentaleb’s performance in this game, declaring that he was the Toon’s ‘worst player of the evening’.

After the Newcastle United news account shared this criticism of the midfielder’s performance, plenty of other Toon supporters replied to the post to share a similarly negative assessment of Bentaleb’s showing in this game.

Was Nabil Bentaleb Newcastle United's worst player versus Manchester City?

As per BBC Sport, an option for Newcastle United to make Bentaleb’s loan move permanent was included in the deal that saw the 25-year-old move to St. James’ Park in January and some Toon supporters replied to @NUFC360’s tweet to share that they don’t want to see their club exercise this option.

Considering that he committed an error that led to City scoring their fifth goal in this game, it may be understandable why some Toon supporters have shared criticism of Bentaleb following his performance in the match.

He may have to deliver some impressive displays if given the opportunity in Newcastle’s final four league games of the 2019/20 season if the loanee is to win the club’s fans over before the end of the campaign.
