Many Newcastle United fans have flocked to a tweet that was recently posted by Toon loanee Nabil Bentaleb following the Toon’s 5-0 loss to Manchester City.
Bentaleb played the full 90 minutes as Newcastle United suffered a 5-0 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday evening. It may be fair to say that the Algerian midfielder didn’t exactly cover himself in glory in this game, as he committed an error that allowed Raheem Sterling to score City’s fifth goal in the 91st minute of this contest. Furthermore, only one Newcastle player earned a lower overall rating than Bentaleb in Wednesday’s game, according to WhoScored.
The midfielder, who joined Newcastle on loan from Schalke in January, took to Twitter after this game to reflect on his side’s loss, saying: “A good fight and a lot of lessons learnt, never give up! This is what we always have to keep in mind!”

After the midfielder posted this tweet, a lot of Toon fans replied to his post to share some criticism of him and his team’s performance in this game.

With all due respect Nabil, it looked like a few of you gave up, we didn’t even get a yellow card, did we even try and tackle them?

If this was a fight it would have been knockout in round 1. Embarrassing

A lot of the Newcastle fans who replied to Bentaleb’s tweet took issue with the midfielder stating that the Magpies put up ‘a good fight’ in this 5-0 loss.
A good fight? I’d love you to elaborate on that. If that standard of “fight” is what you aspire to then you need to take a good long look in the mirror, sir.

Good fight!! You pulled out of every tackle and couldn’t even complete a simple pass because you play with the arrogance of someone well above your ability. Don’t insult us and try and class that as fight!!

A good fight? You good bro?

Do you feel sorry for Nabil BentalebYESNO |
“a good fight”?
Don’t talk so ridiculous.
One of the worst displays of effort and commitment I’ve ever seen in 25 years being a supporter.#NUFC

Possibly a good idea to delete this tweet https://t.co/rTnS2wzw5m

Considering that the Toon suffered their joint-heaviest league defeat of the 2019/20 season in Wednesday’s clash with City, it might not come as a surprise that these Newcastle fans haven’t responded positively to Bentaleb’s tweet reflecting on the side’s performance.
Furthermore, considering that Bentaleb committed an error that led to the opposition scoring their fifth goal of this contest, it may be understandable why he may not be a very popular man with the club’s supporters at present.
