In recent comments made in a discussion on The Athletic, Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee suggested that he believes Eric Garcia will remain at the club, despite reports suggesting that the centre-back has agreed on a move Barcelona.

In a video for Spanish publication Sport, Guillem Balague recently claimed that City are aware that Garcia wants to go to Barcelona – and that Pep Guardiola’s side is currently in talks with the Catalan club with regards to selling the player.

Balague goes on to state that personal terms between Garcia and Barca have been agreed, and that City are looking to sell him this summer, as they do not want him to leave for free when his contract expires next year.

However, this is far from Guardiola’s view on the situation, with the Spanish manager claiming that he would like Garcia to stay at City for “many, many, many years”.

He said: “If they want him they must call him and we are going to try to convince him to stay here for many, many, many years. I am confident he will stay but in the end, it is his decision. He knows we want him… but if he doesn’t want to stay we cannot do anything else. He knows, his agent knows, his family knows that we want him.”

It would appear that Sam Lee shares Guardiola’s confidence that Garcia will remain a City player, as, in a recent discussion on The Athletic, he stated:

“On Eric Garcia, last week and again last night I asked two people who know Garcia about the chances of him going to Barca and they both said they didn’t think it would happen. Partly because Barca just don’t have any money, but also because there are contract talks with City.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, it would appear that the reports on Garcia are rather conflicting, with reports from Spain suggesting that the deal has all but been done, while from England it is quite the opposite.
