Former Premier League goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has been discussing Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea following Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Frank Lampard’s Chelsea and were subsequently eliminated from the competition. De Gea’s performance has been described as a ‘Wembley nightmare’ by Phil McNulty of the BBC after the Spanish stopper made two errors either side of the break.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

Sergio Romero had kept goal for the Red Devils up until this point in the competition but the United boss opted to overlook the Argentinian in favour of his number one and the decision proved to be the wrong one in the end.

Hislop was asked his opinion on De Gea on ESPN FC and here is how he responded: “Every now and then, he makes these glaring errors. Even the best of ‘keepers make one or two a season, but he’s up there in the five or six a season region now and that’s simply not good enough, despite how good otherwise you may be – and I’m not saying he’s been back to his brilliant best by any stretch of the imagination – you can’t be making that number of just very simple, basic mistakes. It’s costing United very dearly.”

Is it time Ole Gunnar Solksjaer dropped David De Gea?

TIF Thoughts…

According to WhoScored.com, the Spaniard’s display versus Chelsea earned him a performance rating of 5.4/10 and therefore it could be argued that Solskjaer made a mistake in not selecting Sergio Romero as he had done throughout the competition up until this point.

The 29-year-old has been Manchester United’s 17th most consistent performer in the Premier League this season with a disappointing average rating of 6.55/10 – based on that, you could argue that he has failed to perform to a high enough standard on a regular basis this season.
