Christian Falk, head of football at German publication Sport Bild, joined Jack Collins and Dean Jones on a recent edition of Bleacher Report’s Football Ranks podcast to discuss some of the latest transfer news in world football. One of the topics of discussion was the future of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, amid links with a move to Manchester United

The England international has been linked with a move to Manchester United recently, with The Athletic reporting that ‘Sancho is United’s principal target’ this summer and stating that ‘it is understood that a considerable amount of money has been allocated to the pursuit of Sancho’.

To kick off this 1990s Premier League quiz, which season was the Premier League's inaugural campaign?

These reports linking the winger with a move to Old Trafford come after Sancho enjoyed an impressive season in the German Bundesliga. The 20-year-old scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists for Dortmund in the league during the 2019/20 campaign and ended the season as the third-highest goalscorer and second-highest assist provider in Germany’s top tier.

Falk shared his thoughts on Sancho and his future during his recent appearance on the Football Ranks podcast, saying: “We would like to keep him one more year [in Germany] because he makes a lot of fun and the focus, because of him [on the] Bundesliga is big, especially from [the] Premier League.

“Sometimes I don’t know if you recognise much what we are doing here in Germany, but since he is here, I see that the fans of [the] Premier League are looking to our league and it’s very nice.”

After the German journalist shared that he would like to see Sancho remain in the Bundesliga for another season, he went on to discuss United’s interest in the player, saying: “If United [are] paying €100m+ I’m sure we will lose him, but Dortmund made a deadline. You have time until 10th August, then they start the preparations [for next season] so if they don’t react quick, we keep him one year more.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by his comments, it’s clear that Falk enjoys watching Sancho in the Bundesliga and would not like to see the player depart from Dortmund this summer. However, his claim that he is “sure” the player will leave Dortmund if United are willing to spend enough money on him might be encouraging news for this potential transfer, especially considering that it has previously been reported that the Red Devils have allocated ‘a considerable amount of money’ to their pursuit of the player.

It appears that Dortmund are open to selling Sancho if the price is right, which may mean that this deal is in United’s hands.
