Speaking recently on The Phil Hay Show, broadcaster Dan Moylan discussed the future of Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

Since joining Leeds from Real Madrid on a free transfer back in January 2019, Casilla has gone on to make 56 appearances for the Whites, conceding 54 goals and keeping an impressive 22 clean sheets.

Nice easy one to start off with, from which club did Leeds sign Hernandez?

The 33-year-old had been in fine form once again this season, featuring 35 times for the Championship table-toppers, conceding 30 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets in the league.

However, Casilla’s season was halted following an independent FA regulatory commission handing the ‘keeper an eight-game ban after the Spaniard was found to have used racist and offensive language towards Charlton Athletic’s Jonathan Leko during a game in September 2019.

On a recent episode of The Phil Hay Show, Moylan claimed that Leeds fans could have seen the last of Casilla at the club as a result of not only his actions, but also his tendency for making errors.

He said: “My gut feeling is that we’ve seen the last of him at Leeds. I think maybe he makes the bench, but I imagine [Illan] Meslier is going to retain this place.

“You actually made a really astute observation on The Square Ball podcast, Michael [Normanton], when you were talking about how it’s being covered on TV, and the director seems to be focusing less on Meslier. You get the close-up of Casilla every time there was a corner against Leeds, and you fully expect some sort of gaffe or error because we got to that point with him, and yet putting Meslier in has just removed all that anxiety.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, it would appear that Moylan thinks that Casilla’s days are numbered because Meslier has performed admirably in the 33-year-old’s absence.

Does Casilla deserve to play for Leeds anymore?

No, he should be sold

No, he should be sold

Yes, keep him

Yes, keep him

This is backed up in his statistics, with the 20-year-old – who is on loan from FC Lorientconceding just four goals and keeping five clean sheets over his eight Championship appearances thus far, prior to Leeds’ fixture with Barnsley on Thursday.
