Speaking recently on the Football Writers Podcast, Seb Stafford-Bloor claimed that he expects Bayern Munich midfielder, Thiago Alcântara, to join Liverpool this summer.

Since arriving at Bayern from Barcelona in a £22.50 million deal back in 2013, Thiago has gone on to make 231 appearances for the German giants, scoring 31 goals and providing 37 assists, helping his side to win seven Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, three German Super Cups, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.

However, despite this clear success with the club, there have been reports that the 29-year-old is not interested in extending his current contract with Bayern – which runs out next summer – and has his eye on a move to Liverpool over the coming transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp even openly complimenting Thiago, stating that ‘he is a great player’.

And, Seb Stafford-Bloor said on the latest episode of the Football Writers Podcast that he expects the Spaniard to make the move to Merseyside this summer.

He said: “I expect Thiago to move to Liverpool, and I dearly hope he does. I think he’s a lovely, lovely player to watch and the kind of player that we want on our doorstep.”

TIF Thoughts…

It would appear very likely that Thiago would indeed be a good signing for Liverpool, as the central midfielder has been one of Bayern Munich’s stand out players this season.

Over his 24 Bundesliga appearances, the 29-year-old has chipped in with three goals and averaged a highly impressive 7.47 WhoScored match rating – enough to rank him as the side’s fourth-best performer this term, as well as the seventh-best performer in the entirety of the Bundesliga.

Are you confident Thiago will end up at Anfield this summer?

However, despite it being reported that Thiago wants to leave the club, a current market valuation of £43.20 million – despite the fact he only has a year remaining on his contract – could mean that Liverpool have to offer Bayern a considerable amount of money for the midfielder, something that, considering the impact of the pandemic on the finances of football clubs, they may not be able to do.
