2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the topic of Thiago, who has been recently linked with a move to Anfield this summer, Addison shared this latest update on a potential deal for the Spaniard.

He said: “Liverpool are not going to be able to spend as much as what some of the other teams will be able to spend. I suppose it quite possibly might come down to whether he is the right player, whether he’s the player that Jurgen Klopp wants and whether the funds are there for that transfer to take place.

“I think Bayern now are more accepting, at the very least, if not completely accepting, that he wants to move. They want him to leave this summer if he is going to go, so that they get a fee rather than losing him for nothing next summer when his contract runs out. I mean, over the last couple of days, there’s been talk of Liverpool making an £18 million bid. I’m not sure there’s any truth in that, to be honest.

“I don’t think at this stage, Liverpool would be looking to table any bids or anything like that, as far as we’re aware, as you say before the interest isn’t really there at this stage. I think all the suggestions are that Liverpool will have to offer double that anyway, closer to £40 million if Bayern are going to let him go this summer. And for a player who’s 29, hasn’t got the best injury record, it’s not a very Liverpool thing to do, really.”

Do Liverpool need to sign a central-midfielder this summer?

No

Thiago first joined the German club back in 2013 from Barcelona for a fee of £22.5 million. Since then, he has gone on to make a total of 231 appearances for Bayern in which he has managed to score 31 goals and provide 37 assists along the way.

Despite the numerous titles he has won during his time in Germany, the midfielder has also struggled with his fair share of injury issues, as Addison mentioned in the podcast.

TIF Thoughts…

It seems as though Addison doesn’t believe that Thiago will be moving to Merseyside this summer. Considering his injury issues and the fact that this current Liverpool squad are already pretty well-stacked in the central-midfield position, it may not be the right move for Klopp’s side to bring Thiago in this summer.
