Liverpool journalist Sanj Shetty has been reflecting on Reds midfielder Adam Lallana and his time at the Merseyside club.

This comes after Shetty recently made an appearance on The Anfield Wrap, a Liverpool-themed podcast to talk about everything related to the club.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the topic of Lallana, Shetty shared his thoughts on the midfielder after Jurgen Klopp recently revealed that the midfielder would not be making any more appearances for the Reds this season to avoid any “risk” in regards to his future plans.

Shetty said: “I think that my overriding impression is that when he’s fit, he’s a genuine asset to the way we play. He’s got the ability to either slow the game down to suit where we are in the game – if say, for instance, the game is 2-1 in our favour, and we’re looking to kill time in the last five or 10 minutes, he’s the person who makes sure that we keep the ball and no one else can get it.

“He’s also the person to inject that pace and people used to talk about him leading the press when [Jurgen] Klopp first turned up. And certainly, we were a really impressive side when he was part of that. I feel sorry for him because of those injuries, and there’s no way to know what kind of player he could have been if he had been fit for the majority of the last two to three years.

“But generally, I think he’s been an asset to Liverpool and I’ll be sad to see him go and you can tell that from the way his teammates treat him. He’s genuinely a really popular bloke. I think we’ll miss him.”

Will Liverpool miss Adam Lallana next season?

No

The 32-year-old first signed to the Merseyside club back in 2014 from Southampton for a fee of £27.9 million. Since then, Lallana has gone on to make 178 appearances for the Reds in which he managed to score 22 goals and provide 22 assists along the way.

Unfortunately for Lallana, as Shetty mentioned, injuries have disrupted his time at Anfield since his arrival from Southampton.

TIF Thoughts…

It’s great to hear the praise Shetty has for Lallana and recognises what he has brought to the club since his arrival.

Despite Lallana leaving the club at the end of the season, at least he will leave them as the reigning Premier League champions.
