Aston Villa journalist Gregg Evans has been discussing Villa winger Trezeguet after his latest performance for the Birmingham club.
This comes after Evans recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Villa-based podcast 1874 to reflect on Villa’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in midweek.
During the episode, Evans shared his thoughts on the Egyptian winger and how he fared in the defeat to the Manchester club.
He said: “He’s had a bad season, probably isn’t good enough to be in that Villa team; let’s be honest, if there was somebody better than him, they would take his place. But I was watching him and he was working so hard up and down throughout, getting really frustrated when it wasn’t going his way.
“There [were] times where he was chasing three or four United players and they were just passing it between him and I just thought this is a player that’s trying so, so hard for the team, but he’s probably just not quite good enough, and that’s probably the case for quite a few of the players.”

The winger signed to the club in the previous summer transfer window for a fee of £9 million.
In his debut season at Villa Park, the 25-year-old has made 37 appearances for the club across all competitions but has only managed to score four goals and provide three assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).
Trezeguet’s performances in the 30 Premier League appearances he’s made for Villa this year has earned him a season rating of 6.51/10, making him Villa’s 14th highest rated performer for this campaign (per WhoScored).
Despite this disappointing rating for his season at Villa so far, Trezeguet was actually Villa’s second-highest-rated performer in their defeat to United.
TIF Thoughts…
Even though he hasn’t had the best season for Villa in terms of providing goals and assists, it’s good to hear that Evans has picked up on the hard work Trezeguet put into his performance against United.
Trezeguet will now be hoping that he can have a positive impact for Villa in their remaining matches so they can try and avoid being relegated to the Championship.
