Speaking recently on the Football Writers Podcast, Adrian Clarke suggested that Jurgen Klopp may be forced into making one big signing this summer.

Since Manchester City’s defeat to Chelsea back in June, which saw Liverpool be crowned the champions of England for the first time in 30 years, Liverpool’s form has taken a rather downwards turn.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Prior to the unexpected break in the Premier League season, Jurgen Klopp’s side had won all but two of their 29 Premier League games, leading second-placed Manchester City by a whopping 25 points.

However, since the restart, the Reds have managed just three wins, drawing two and losing two of their fixtures.

And, while this does not change the fact that the club are the runaway Premier League winners, Adrian Clarke recently claimed on the Football Writers Podcast that Liverpool’s poor form could force Klopp to make one big signing this summer.

He said “I tell you what, this run of form for Liverpool, this mediocre spell, I think, will force Jurgen Klopp to bring in at least one big-name signing.

“I don’t think he wanted to. I don’t think that he wanted to tinker with it, because he’s got a great formula, it’s all working very nicely, they’re very special league champions. But what he’s seeing, in terms of attitude and just an easing off, and the substitutes aren’t putting enough pressure on the big boys.

“We know Liverpool’s best XI – it’s there for all to see, I think we could all name it. And what Klopp has to do now, in my opinion, is bring in one or two players that would genuinely threaten guys that are in that starting XI and that, I imagine, will lead to a rise in standards again.

“Every dressing room needs a new face each season, in my opinion, just to get the juices flowing again and to remind them that nothing should ever be taken for granted.”

TIF Thoughts…

As such, it would certainly appear that Clarke believes Liverpool are in need of fresh faces over the coming transfer window, in order to keep the club’s established starters on their toes.
