Liverpool Echo journalist Adam Jones has heaped praise on Everton’s young attacker Anthony Gordon.
Since the Premier League’s return to action, the 19-year-old has made an appearance in each of the Toffees’ six league matches and he has managed to bag himself one assist (per Transfermarkt).
During Everton’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City, the game in which Gordon netted an assist, the youngster also secured a stellar match rating of 7.66/10 (per WhoScored).
Speaking in an episode of Royal Blue: The Everton FC Podcast prior to Everton’s 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jones waxed lyrical over Gordon’s form since the restart.
He said: “I think there were large parts, well, especially in the first half [against Southampton], where Anthony Gordon was looking like the only player who was regularly trying to progress Everton up the pitch and essentially do his job in midfield.
“I think he was really good once again.
“When you consider that’s only his third Premier League start, I think that’ll be really promising for [Carlo] Ancelotti to look at.”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what Jones had to say, it seems that he believes that Gordon has been in impressive form for the Toffees since the Premier League returned.
Will Anthony Gordon be a big player for Carlo Ancelotti in the future?Yes, has loads of potentialNo, he's not good enough |
However, over his eight league outings this season, the 19-year-old attacker has only earned a 6.49/10 average rating, making him Everton’s joint-14th-best performer (per WhoScored).
That said, only four of those appearances have been starts, with the other four coming as outings off the bench.
Hopefully, if he continues to impress the likes of Jones, his average rating for the season will also improve before the end of the campaign.
