The Atheltic reporter Patrick Boyland has discussed what Everton should do in the upcoming summer transfer window.

During last summer’s transfer window, the Toffees ploughed £107.91m into signings and that sealed the arrival of seven players (per Transfermarkt).

However, prior to Everton’s match against Aston Villa, only two of those players have been able to score an average rating above 6.60/10 in the league this season and those are Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who has featured in just two games, and Djibril Sidibe (per WhoScored).

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s Gwlad Tidings podcast, Boyland discussed what the Toffees should be doing in the next transfer window.

To start this quiz on Richarlison with an easy one, how much did the Toffees pay to secure the Brazilian's services including potential future fees?

He said: “I think it’s a big window coming up for [Carlo] Ancelotti and [Marcel] Brands. I really, really do.

“While you might look at this and think ideally you’d want to see two or three come in and a host going out, I think what we’re actually going to realise is this is going to take an awful lot of time to get right because it’s effectively a revamp of the squad that is needed.

“They need to look at this and if they are playing 4-4-2, they need to find players for 4-4-2 and recruit on that basis.

“It just feels like we’re still paying the price for failed regimes, failed signings – expensive, costly signings – and everything else. [It] just seems like a bit of a mess.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, it is evidently his belief that it is a big transfer window coming up for the Toffees as they need to be clever with their recruitment.

Do you trust Carlo Ancelotti and Marcel Brands to sign the right players?

Yes, they'll do well

No, I don't trust them

Whatever Ancelotti and Brands decide to do over the summer, it will certainly be interesting to see how the pair recruits in the next transfer window.
