The Liverpool Echo’s head of sport David Prentice has cast doubt over the future of Everton’s English midfielder Tom Davies.
The Toffees’ 22-year-old Englishman has been with the club since his youth career, having graduated from Everton’s academy in 2015 (per Transfermarkt).
Since then, he has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Merseyside outfit in all competitions (per Transfermarkt).
However, in a recent episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Royal Blue: The Everton FC Podcast, Prentice cast some doubt over the future of the midfielder.
He said: “Tom Davies has been at the club [for a while] now, he’s played 100 games, and how often have we seen him impact a match significantly this season?
“I think he’s probably a player that would be the most concerned, because he has had a bit of a run recently. I think he’d certainly be concerned about his long-term prospects.
“It sounds harsh and I hate myself saying this because he’s one of our own, he’s a young Scouser, he’s captained the club – but it’s a results business.
“If you’re not producing often enough on the pitch, you’ve got to fear for your first-team future. I think that could be a man who could be concerned about how many more opportunities he’s going to get going forward.”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what Prentice had to say, it seems to be his belief that Davies should be concerned about his future at the club as he is consistently not delivering good enough performances.
Would you sell Tom Davies this summer if you were Carlo Ancelotti?
No, we should keep him
Yes, he's not good enough
Due to the fact the middleman has neither scored nor assisted since the Premier League restarted prior to Everton’s match with Sheffield United (per Transfermarkt), the journalist could be right.
