Aston Villa fan and YouTube star Max Stokes has been talking about Villa defender Bjorn Engels.

This comes after Stokes made a video for his Villa-themed YouTube channel where he goes through the current Villa squad and reveals which players he would like to see stay at the club this summer and which ones he thinks should leave.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

When he got to Engels, Stokes shared his thoughts on the defender and what he would like to see happen to the Belgian this summer.

He said: “Bjorn Engels is a bit of a funny one, because I’m not really sure what’s happened there with him. I think I’ve got to keep him because, like Kortney Hause, I think he’s a good player to have in the squad but I don’t know what’s happened with him.

“He hasn’t played since the restart, whether he’s had an argument with [Dean] Smith or he’s had injury worries, I’m not sure. I think he looked good at the first half of the season.”

Engels signed for Villa back in the previous summer transfer window from French side Stade Reims for a fee of £7.2 million.

Since then, the 25-year-old has gone on to make 19 appearances for Dean Smith’s side with 17 of them coming in the Premier League (per Transfermarkt).

However, as Stokes mentioned in his video, Engels did not make an appearance for Villa after the league restarted in June and did not even feature on the bench.

Do you think Bjorn Engels has fallen out with Dean Smith?

TIF Thoughts…

Before the season ended, Smith said that Engels had an Achilles issue that kept him out of action for Villa. Hopefully, that is the only reason why Engels didn’t make an appearance for the club in the final stretch of the season and there has been no falling out between him and Smith as Stokes mentioned.

Hopefully, Engels can overcome this injury problem and be ready to help Villa battle it out in the 2020/21 Premier League season.
