Aston Villa journalist Mat Kendrick has been discussing winger Trezeguet after the Egyptian scored a brace in Villa’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.
This comes after Kendrick recently made an appearance on the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast to reflect on this latest win for Dean Smith’s side.
On the topic of Trezeguet, Kendrick shared his thoughts on the winger and his performance in the match.
He said: “I must admit, I groaned when I saw his name on the teamsheet and I groaned within the first 10 minutes because he’d either given the ball away or had been knocked. I think he’s still a little bit lightweight, to be honest, I know he’s only a slight guy anyway, but he needs to be a little bit stronger. But he’s delivered, and Villa have delivered.”
For his performance in the win against Roy Hodgson’s side, Trezeguet earned himself a match rating of 8.47/10, making him Villa’s man of the match (per WhoScored).
Despite this fantastic display from Trezeguet, his previous appearances for Villa in the Premier League have earned him a disappointing season rating of 6.57/10, making him the joint-12th-highest rated player for Villa alongside Tom Heaton and Anwar El Ghazi in this campaign (per WhoScored).

Given how disappointing Trezeguet has been for Villa this season, with the exception of the Palace game, it’s understandable why Kendrick may have been a bit deflated seeing the 25-year-old on the team sheet for the match at the weekend.
However, Trezeguet’s performance against Palace would have certainly pleased a lot of Villa fans as they picked up their first Premier League win since January (per Transfermarkt).
Trezeguet will be hoping that he can continue this good form as Villa look to avoid relegation by picking up as many points as possible in their remaining league fixtures.
